Hallelujah! It is now easy to `open a hole' in SuSE's firewall to allow access to Samba shares. Note, by default Samba shares are not accessible through the SuSE firewall.

YaST -- Security and Users -- Firewall -- Allowed Services

Choose `External Zone'. Under `Services to Allow' choose `Samba Client', then click `Add'. Click `Next' and then `Finish'.
