Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H integrated graphics -- ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics (RS780 9610)

This seemed to work well. It is initially recognised as a VESA graphics card. However, during the installation process the ATI repository is added as one of the `community repositories', allowing the fglrx, the proprietary ATI driver, to be installed. Installation goes smoothly, and glxgears runs on glxgears much faster than VESA, radeon or radeonhd drivers. Incidentally, the stock radeon/radeonhd drivers do not work with my ATI Radeon HD3200, but the updated drivers available on the X11 repository (as of July 2008) do work. Sadly, the updated X11 as of July 2008 does not work with the available fglrx driver (8.493 as of July 2008).

What does not work is trying to open another X11 screen. This fails in a variety of different scenarios...

As of February 2009, I am using version 8.561 of fglrx driver (the latest version is 8.573). This driver works with warzone2100 in full-screen mode and allows switching to a console and back to X11. Even better, it works with the `Desktop Effects' in KDE 4.2, with all the spinning cubes, wobbly and semi-transparent windows etc.. To enable Desktop effects, I needed to add the following line to the `Device' section of /etc/X11/XF86Config...

Option       AccelMethod XAA
