During installation I needed to use the boot option `brokenmodules=advansys'. Sadly, attempts to load the advansys module resulted in Linux attempting to reset the SCSI adapter before unsuccessfully scanning each possible SCSI ID. This was painfully slow, and ultimately failed anyway. Something is broken with the way the advansys module interacts with the kernel, I reckon.
In case you were wondering, Windows XP Pro SP2 recognises the advansys adapter and successfully uses attached peripherals using the same motherboard.
kernel 126.96.36.199 (which comes with the normal openSuSE 11.0 updates) seems to handle the advansys module much better, but still resets occasionally.
